Introduction

As privacy and interoperability become paramount in DeFi, Manta Bridge emerges as the leading non-custodial protocol for shielded transfers of tokens and NFTs across multiple blockchains. Leveraging zk-SNARK proofs and a decentralized relayer network, Manta Bridge enables confidential, secure movement of assets—and arbitrary data—between Ethereum, BNB Chain, Polygon, Polkadot parachains, and more.

What Is Manta Bridge?

Manta Bridge implements a lock–prove–mint workflow to preserve asset confidentiality and parity:

  1. Lock: A user generates a zero-knowledge proof locally and submits it to the shield contract on the source chain, which locks or burns the asset without revealing amounts or addresses.

  2. Prove: Decentralized relayers in the Manta Network verify the proof off-chain, then submit a succinct zk-SNARK proof to the destination chain.

  3. Mint: The destination bridge contract verifies the zk-proof and mints or releases the corresponding asset to the user’s wallet.

This model ensures a strict 1:1 peg between original and bridged assets while concealing transaction details from on-chain observers.

Core Features

  • zk-Privacy: Full confidentiality of amounts and addresses via zk-SNARK shielding, with optional selective disclosure.

  • Multi-Chain Support: Connects EVM networks (Ethereum, BNB Chain, Polygon), Polkadot parachains, and Cosmos zones with IBC adapters.

  • NFT & Data Bridges: Transfers ERC-721/1155 and SPL NFTs, preserving metadata, plus arbitrary messaging for cross-chain governance.

  • Non-Custodial Relayers: Permissionless nodes stake MANTA tokens; honest participation earns fees, misbehavior triggers slashing.

  • High Throughput & Low Fees: zk-Rollup aggregation processes thousands of shield events per minute, minimizing on-chain gas costs.

  • Developer Tooling: JavaScript/TypeScript SDK, REST API, and CLI tools simplify proof creation, transaction submission, and status monitoring.

How to Use Manta Bridge

  1. Connect Your Wallet Open the Manta Bridge portal and connect via MetaMask (EVM), Polkadot.js (parachains), or WalletConnect.

  2. Select Source & Destination Choose your source chain (e.g., Ethereum) and destination chain (e.g., BNB Chain).

  3. Choose Asset & Amount Pick an ERC-20 token or NFT and enter the shielded amount. The client generates a zk-SNARK proof locally.

  4. Approve & Submit Shield Approve the shield contract to spend your asset, then submit the shield transaction. The asset locks or burns on the source chain.

  5. Wait for Relayer Confirmation Relayers detect the event, validate the proof off-chain, and post the succinct proof on the destination chain (typically within minutes).

  6. Redeem on Destination Once verified, the bridge contract mints or releases the bridged asset into your destination-chain wallet.

API & SDK Integration

  • JavaScript SDK: High-level functions for shield, prove, and redeem flows.

  • Rust SDK: Optimized for Substrate and Solana environments.

  • REST API: Endpoints for fetching pending proofs, bridge statuses, and shield events.

  • Reference Samples: Comprehensive examples on GitHub demonstrate cross-chain transfers and event subscriptions.

Security & Audits

  • Audited Contracts: Core bridge and shield contracts audited by Trail of Bits and QuantStamp; reports are publicly accessible.

  • Bug Bounty: $2 million reward program on Immunefi for vulnerability disclosures.

  • Governance Controls: On-chain DAO manages relayer rotations, emergency halts, and protocol parameter updates via time-locked proposals.

Tokenomics & Manta Airdrop

The Manta Airdrop and token model fuel the protocol’s growth:

  • Total Supply: 1 billion MANTA.

  • Manta Airdrop: 500 million MANTA distributed to early adopters, builders, and liquidity providers in March 2024, vesting over two years.

  • Market Data: MANTA trades with a market cap of approximately $350 million and a circulating supply of 200 million (CoinGecko) .

  • Incentives: Grants for ecosystem development, liquidity mining, and community rewards, ensuring long-term alignment.

Analytics & Adoption

  • Total Value Shielded: Over $1.8 billion since launch, reflecting demand for private cross-chain transfers.

  • Daily Shield Volume: Averages $25 million per day, with peaks during market volatility (CoinMarketCap) .

  • Active Addresses: 18 000+ unique shield participants, with a 50 % repeat rate—indicative of strong retention.

  • Ecosystem Partners: Integrated by Manta Pacific DeFi aggregators and NFT platforms to enable privacy-preserving cross-chain operations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Manta Network? A: Manta Network refers to the broader zk-Rollup ecosystem underpinning Manta Bridge—including Manta Pay and Manta Pacific—focused on private, scalable DeFi.

Q: How private are Manta Bridge transfers? A: All transaction details are concealed by zero-knowledge proofs. Only proof validity is recorded on-chain; amounts and addresses remain confidential.

Q: Which chains can I bridge between? A: Manta Bridge supports major EVM chains, Polkadot parachains, and Cosmos zones—over 15 networks today, with more in the pipeline.

Q: Are there fees? A: Users pay standard source/destination chain gas plus a small relayer fee in MANTA (0.01 %–0.03 %).

Q: Where can I find developer documentation? A: Visit the Manta Bridge GitHub at for SDKs, API references, and sample integrations.
